3rd Day - 289 pounds

Well, considering yesterday, I'm really glad that I didn't gain any weight today. I really never noticed just how bad my diet is... especially because I feel like I eat good food all the time. I'm beginning to wonder if this is just a fluke or if maybe I just THINK I'm eating good food all the time because I'm proud of myself when I do, but I don't think about it when I don't.

My goal today was to drink more water, especially after the comments people have been leaving. I think I've always known how important water is, but I've never really understood it enough to apply it consistently. Also, I have decided to cut out the soda in my life. Maybe I'll have one now and again, but not in any significant amount.

When I decided to start this blog, my wife wondered if I would really be comfortable sharing this kind of information every day. I figured that I would be fine and that this would be a great help to me because of all the motivation I would receive. Now, just three days in, I feel a lot of support from everyone, but I also feel a little embarrassed about my diet. I think every time I look at a cookie, I'm going to tell myself, "you can eat that cookie, but remember, you have to tell EVERYONE that you did..." Even so, I'm really liking this idea so far. I hope you are all enjoying it, too.

My quick analysis for the day is that I did a lot better with the water, but I felt full all day, so I didn't eat anything. I didn't realize this until a little while ago, so I might make myself something light before bed. I'll let you know tomorrow. :D

So, a little shamefully, here are today's numbers:

Date: November 3, 2010 (Happy Birthday to my sister, Dre)
Weight: 289 pounds

Went to bed last night at: 3:00am
Got up at: 8:30am

Exercise: Low daily exercise. Stairs at work and, well, the other stairs at work.

Food: A couple homemade whole wheat doughnuts and 2 Wendy's chicken nuggets that the girl's didn't eat.

Drink: About 60 oz of water

Vitamins, etc.: I took the probiotics last night and I'll take 2 more tonight. No antacid last night, probably not tonight either.

How I Felt: I don't think my mood was affected as much by my diet tonight as it has been the last couple of days. I had a good day and I don't feel exhausted at the moment, even though this is usually about the time I slow down.

  1. Ed, you are making some positive changes. Keep on working on getting your water intake up. This will help your body flush itself out. You may want to add some lemon to your water. This makes it easier to drink more water, helps your body flush itself out, and the ascorbic acid increases your metabolism. You may also want to try and add some more greens to your diet. Again helps you flush stuff out and helps keep you full. You may also want to consider planning out a minimal meal plan because not eating enough is actually worse than eating too much when it comes to weight loss ( a little counter intuitive I know). It is good you are making changes slowly as you don't want to shock your body too much.

  2. Hi Edward! I think it's great your doing this and it always helps when you have support. Losing weight is no easy task I still struggle with it day to day. A few suggestions, one I found a better sleep schedule helps. I noticed in your blogs your sleeping pattern has you staying up really late. And getting up early. Not getting enough rest can make it harder to lose weight and throw your internal clock out of whack. Try getting to bed earlier if or whenever possible and being consistent. Also more exercise. Which I know suggesting that is like no kidding. But what I mean is, it's not always easy getting to the gym especially with kids and work. And office jobs dont tend to require too much walking around. Well depending on the position I guess. But what I have found works great is just making time in the day either before work or after to just walk 30 mins around the neighborhood or around the block even up and down the street. Everyday or every other day. It leaves you feeling like you've accomplished something and It may not be a crazy sweaty work out but sometimes you have to start out small to get big results. Also if you haven't already talked to your doctor I suggest asking them to help you figure out a good plan. If you have any type of imbalance it may be harder to lose weight. Also he/she may suggest eating several small meals a day rather than three regular meals. And most importantly anytime you get a chance research. Learn about better foods good alternatives to snacks and sweets. You can do it Ed!

  3. Hey Edward this is Jessie M. From high school I know we didn't talk much, but I saw this blog on facebook and thought it was cool you're trying to lose weight. I was always fairly thin back then (175-185 at 5'7"), but then I got married and settled down and shot up to 225. Anyhow, I've been on a quest to lose weight the last 2.5 months and am now down to 202! Here's how I'm doing it. 1 Gallon of water a day which is roughly equivalent to 7 -16.9oz water bottles. No SODA! Staying away from all fancy starbuck's like sugary coffee drinks Keeping in mind to take in less calories than calories burned. I tried the 6 small meals a day thing, worked in times past, not this time around, may work for you. Now just eating 1 semi large HEALTHY meal i.e. Cream of Wheat mixed with tbsp of maple syrup and half a banana for breakfast and 2 smaller meals. And another tip is that the more muscle you have the faster fat burns. Someone with no muscle burns 2 to 3 times less calories while sitting watching tv than somebody with muscle doing the same. Yes the body burns calories while doing relatively nothing
:-). I know it'll be hard trying to put on muscle in the beginning, but using even the lightest of weights does something. As soon as I learned that little factoid about the muscle building, I saw the fat flying off once I applied it to my routine. That's all I got. Hope you stick to it and reach your goal.
